Featuring 47 Airstreams and a shimmering new clubhouse, the glampsite celebrates the High Desert with style

Airstream glamping company AutoCamp opened its Joshua Tree campsite early January 2022. The 25-acre property consists of 47 Airstreams, four accessible suits, and four X-Suite cabins. Similar to AutoCamp Cape Cod, the property focuses around a uniquely designed central clubhouse, where guests can come to gather and relax.

Inspired by the colors and textures of its surroundings, as well as the eclectic and innovative architecture characteristic of Joshua Tree, the newest addition to the AutoCamp portfolio offers up an experience tailored specifically to celebrate the beauty of the Southern Californian desert.

Designed by HKS architects, the central clubhouse takes after Quonset Huts in form, prefab structures used as portable outposts during WWII. A mixture of raw materials and geometric forms create a facade that's distinctly mid-century, although warm and inviting. Natural materials also create a comfortable interior, where guests can mill about around a fireplace and five-person bar.

The accommodations offered are much the same as other AutoCamp locations. A Classic Airstream suite starts at $199/night and features a queen-sized bed outfitted with luxury linens, a kitchenette, and luxury bathroom with a spacious shower. At $289/night, the prefab cabin Vista X Suites are the most expensive but offer up the most space, including a private deck and firepit.

AutoCamp made efforts to incorporate sustainable elements into the design of their Joshua Tree site. All Joshua Trees were preserved and protected during the construction of the campus, and native plans were used throughout landscaping. They have also partnered with Mojave Desert Land Trust, a non-profit dedicated to protecting the ecosystems of the Mojave and Colorado Desert.

While AutoCamp Joshua Tree is in the process of a soft opening through February 2022 (i.e. the site is still under some construction), you can book a stay now on the AutoCamp website. The glamping company is also set to open a Catskills location later this year.
